Cuba & Alaska

93' 2025
dir.: Yegor Troyanovsky

A story about a friendship stronger than fear. A pair of paramedics evacuate the wounded from the front lines.

The first truly female-driven documentary about the war in Ukraine follows a pair of medical rescuers who evacuate the wounded from the front line. Their call signs perfectly capture their contrasting personalities: the fiery Kuba pairs seamlessly with the steady, responsible Alaska. Their friendship is forged in daring missions that save the lives of their fellow soldiers and during quiet moments of respite, when the stress briefly fades. Everything changes when Alaska is gravely injured. War reveals its true face, and adrenaline gives way to pain, uncertainty, and reflection. Must being a soldier mean abandoning your dreams? Troyanovsky’s intense, high-energy film shows that the meaning of life is often clearest at moments of greatest danger and that true friendship is stronger than fear.
