A philosopher, essayist, and translator, he works at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where he heads the Anthropology of Contemporary Times Workshop. KATARZYNA CZARNOTA

Katarzyna Czarnota is a sociologist, a researcher at the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, a member of Border Forensics, and a research fellow at the University of Bern. She is involved in Professor Charles Heller's project "The Circumference of Violence – Tracing the Normalization and Brutalization of Violence across Europe's Shifting External Borders." In her research and advocacy work, she utilizes methodologies for diagnosing and mapping social problems, supporting advocacy activities and strategic communication.

From 2015 to 2019, she conducted research projects on forced migration and border regimes, including in Turkey, Greece, and the so-called Balkan Route. In 2013-2014, she spent several months in the Gaza Camp in Jerash, a Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan, and traveled to Palestine several times, including documenting and supporting the activities of The Freedom Theater in Jenin.

Since 2021, she has been monitoring the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. She collaborates with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, carrying out activities in collaboration with the investigative agency Border Forensics, which documents violence on Europe's borders. She is the author and host of the Migracje.Info podcast (HFPC). She also collaborates with Czas Kultury (the "States of Exception" podcast) and the Polish edition of Le Monde diplomatique.

MACIEJ SANDECKI / Moderator

A journalist and editor with over 25 years of experience. Since August 19, 2024, he has been editor-in-chief of Dziennik Bałtycki, having previously worked for Gazeta Wyborcza for many years. He has also collaborated with TVP3 Gdańsk, Radio Gdańsk, and OKO.Press, among others. He covers issues such as politics, history, culture, and social inequality.
