Our Days, Absolutely, Have to Be Enlightened

Our Days, Absolutely, Have to Be Enlightened

22' 2012
dir.: Jean-Gabriel Périot

A concert performed by inmates and the reactions of the audience gathered by the prison walls.

“Our Days, Absolutely, Have to Be Enlightened” is more of an experimental film than a classic documentary. With no dialogue or off-screen narration, the protagonists also remain behind the scenes inside a New Orleans prison, which is the setting for a concert by prisoners broadcast on 28 May 2011, for a small audience gathered outside the prison walls. Film brings to life the considerable emotional, aesthetic, and anthropological potential of this unusual situation. With great subtlety, the film captures a range of emotions those palpable in the voices of the performers, as well as those visible on the faces of the people listening.
