Rafał Kołacki |Concert inspired by the sound installation SUMUD

"Sumud" is a sound installation that recreates the atmosphere of an anti-war demonstration that took place on the streets of Berlin on January 11, 2025. The installation is not merely a recording of the event but an immersive experience that places the listener at the very heart of the protest—standing amidst the crowd and hearing the sounds surrounding them from all directions.

Utilizing omnidirectional (immersive) sound technology, the installation faithfully reproduces the spatial arrangement of sounds, conveying the sensation of being present in the dynamically shifting environment of the demonstration. The listener is enveloped by a multi-channel soundscape, where the voices from megaphones, chants in Arabic, German, and English, rhythmic drum beats, whistles, and the sirens of ambulances and police vehicles come together to form a multidimensional narrative of protest.

The installation features voices of demonstrators from Palestine and Berlin, expressing solidarity with the victims of the conflict. Emotional tension, determination, and hope intertwine with the weight of tragic news that drove people into the streets. Sumud is more than just a documentation of resistance—it is an experience that allows one to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of solidarity and defiance against violence.
