  • Marcin Urbaniak is a bioethicist, neuroscientist and zoopsychologist at the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow, Poland, and head of the interdisciplinary Animal Behaviour and Mind Laboratory. He works on the evolution of cognitive structures and processes and their comparative view in the animal kingdom. He conducts research in the areas of sensation and interspecies communication and around animal social behaviour and higher mental functions in selected species. The results of his research justify the need for continuous improvements in animal welfare. Outside of work, he is active as an environmental activist and educator for nature conservation, as well as an expert and media commentator on saving biodiversity. He works with international NGOs and community initiatives.
