WATCH DOCS nominations at the American Film Festival!

The 13th edition of the American Film Festival starts in Wrocław. From 8 to 13 November, at the Nowe Horyzonty Cinema viewers can watch the best feature and documentary films by independent directors, as well as outstanding Hollywood productions and classic hits from years ago.

The 13th AFF will feature a total of 88 productions, 37 of which will be shown in Poland for the first time.

WATCH DOCS has cooperated with the AFF for many years, so we wholeheartedly recommend their Wrocław screenings. We also encourage you to see two documentaries we had nominated for the programme. In December, they will also be available in Warsaw cinemas and online during the 22nd edition of WATCH DOCS:

TikTok, Boom. is a story of a rapid change brought about by the Chinese application that has taken over the world of social media. 2 billion downloads is a result that neither Meta, nor Twitter can hope to achieve. How has TikTok affected our reality? Loss of privacy, harassment, data trading, sexual abuse - that's the price Gen Z is willing to pay for the opportunities offered by new technologies. And there are many. From huge earnings, and a meteoric rise to fame as an influencer to political activism to discovering your own identity. Shalini Kantayya's documentary is an immersive picture of the dramatic change happening before our eyes.

Riotsville tells the story of artificial towns built for training purposes for the US military and police. In the second half of the 1960s, they were the established training grounds for the suppression of riots and the pacification of demonstrators, with the authorities, gathered in the audience. These skills were later used during clashes with those who were considered the greatest threat to public order – black people trying to regain their basic rights and freedoms. The film shows how far the American authorities were able to go to suppress the protests of African Americans.
