WATCH DOCS for Sunday

A memory of Gaza from over twenty years ago, the world through the eyes of neurodivergent creators, and a documentary investigation into the disappearance of birds of prey — you won’t want to miss Sunday at WATCH DOCS!

“What connects a zombie horror set during the American Civil War with the story of a friendly border collie named Chess? This hybrid film, created by a collective of artists on the autism spectrum, is essentially a bold experiment on the border of documentary and conceptual art. How does an average so-called ‘typical’ viewer navigate a narrative led by a neurodivergent person?” — this is how the festival’s program director, Konrad Wirkowski, describes The Stimming Pool
The screening begins at 6:15 pm at Kino Muranów, followed by a discussion: “Can We Afford Neurodiversity?” More and more people, especially young ones, turn to psychological or psychiatric support to understand the challenges they face in everyday social functioning. But can everyone afford it? What realities shape access to diagnosis, support, and inclusion in Poland — who is left outside the system, and why?

This evening, the Marek Nowicki Award will be presented. This special honor, awarded to creators who combine cinematic artistry with deep social sensitivity — and which this year goes collectively to Palestinian filmmakers — will be received by director Kamal Aljafari.
One of the most renowned Palestinian filmmakers, documentarians, and visual artists, Aljafari dedicates his work to memory and to constructing the cultural identity of Palestine. He restores images of Palestine — first appropriated by British colonizers and later by Israeli occupiers — reclaiming them as full-fledged cultural artifacts. His latest film, With Hasan in Gaza,” was the only documentary in the main competition at this year’s Locarno Film Festival. You can see it today at 7 pm at KINOMUZEUM during the award ceremony.
And tomorrow at 6 pm, the director will lead the masterclass “A Picture Lasts Longer,” in which he will discuss working with archival materials and restoring cultural memory erased by occupation.

We also invite you to Kinoteka, where at 8:30 pm the screening of Resilience will begin.
“The opening shots of predators gliding soundlessly just above the lake’s surface give the impression of encountering pure freedom. The gripping investigation into the disappearance of eagles — reminiscent of a crime thriller — reveals the immense pressure under which nature must function today, even in its wildest forms. And how many forces, from globalization to the tyranny of profit to cultural limitations, distort our relationship with the natural world.”
The film’s director, Tomáš Elšík, will meet with the audience after the screening.

See you at the cinema!
