WATCH DOCS to distribute "Intercepted" in Poland

WATCH DOCS Festival and the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights launch the theatrical distribution of the most acclaimed Ukrainian documentary of the year, "Intercepted," directed by Oksana Karpovych.

This documentary, which earned its creators a nomination for the European LUX Audience Award, has garnered recognition at numerous film festivals worldwide, including Berlinale, Krakow Film Festival, CPH:DOX, and Hot Docs. It was also honored by the jury of the Main Competition at the 24th WATCH DOCS Film Festival, where it received the WATCH DOCS Award. The film is under the patronage of the Arthouse Cinema Association.

The film's premiere will take place on March 7, 2025, but we encourage cinemas to organize pre-premiere screenings in connection with the anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (February 24).

About "Intercepted":

The year’s most acllaimed Ukrainian documentary. Conversations between Russian soldiers and their families intercepted by Ukrainian intelligence.

A film about the war in Ukraine like no other. Without showing a single shot fired—no wounds, tanks, or explosions—the filmmakers capture the heart of the conflict. Long, perfectly framed shots reveal lunar landscapes and the wrecked interiors of apartments claimed by the "Russian World" in 2022. The absurdity and brutality of war are laid bare by the occupiers themselves: the audio consists solely of intercepted conversations between Russian soldiers and their families, recorded by Ukrainian intelligence, in which they recount their wartime experiences. Some of these conversations will likely serve as evidence in war crime trials. This bold cinematic experiment, where sound and image amplify one another, mercilessly exposes the state of Russian society, consumed by toxic propaganda. A must-see in theaters.
