Tuesday at WATCH DOCS!

The most talked-about Ukrainian documentary of the year, the pitfalls of democracy, and a performance by the duo RYSY – here’s what you can find at WATCH DOCS this Tuesday!

This is a war film like no other. Not a single shot is fired, and there are no wounded, tanks, or explosions. Yet, its creators have managed to capture the essence of the conflict. Through long, perfectly framed shots, the film portrays lunar landscapes and gutted interiors of homes reached by "Russkiy Mir" in 2022. The absurdity and brutality of war are revealed by the occupiers themselves: the soundscape of "Intercepted" is composed entirely of intercepted conversations between Russian soldiers and their families, recounting their wartime experiences.

Join us for the screening at Kino Muranów at 6:00 PM, followed by the discussion Images of War – The visual space around us is saturated with images of war: propaganda, fiction, aestheticized, or documentary. What does war look like from Warsaw, and what does it look like from Kharkiv?

At Kinoteka, at 6:15 PM, we’ll host the first screening of the Norwegian documentary "Norwegian Democrazy", which exposes the paradoxes of democracy. Citing constitutionally protected freedom of speech, extremists stoke racial tensions. After the film, join us for a conversation with the creators.

At KINOMUZEUM, at 9:00 PM, don’t miss the premiere screening and Q&A session for "A Year in the Life of a Country", winner of the Silver Horn at the Krakow Film Festival. You’d think everything about martial law has already been said. Yet, Tomasz Wolski surprises us again with a film crafted from rare, never-before-seen footage, offering a behind-the-scenes look at historical events. Much of this material was filmed by the militia or the Security Service.

To wrap up the day, we invite you to a DJ set by RYSY. The duo, composed of producers Wojtek Urbański and Łukasz Stachurko, blends progressive dance beats with melancholic yet catchy melodies. Since their debut, they have performed extensively at Poland's top festivals, including Open’er Festival, Tauron Nowa Muzyka, Audioriver, and Off Festival. Catch them at Bar Studio in the Palace of Culture and Science at 8:00 PM. Free entry!
