Since the very beginning, i.e. since 2001, the organizer of the WATCH DOCS festival has been the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. The Foundation monitors compliance with democratic standards in Poland and conducts educational activities on human rights, including the WATCH DOCS film festival.

What else does the Foundation do besides WATCH DOCS?

The HFHR intervenes in cases of human rights violations and takes part in court proceedings, standing on the side of those who often cannot count on any other help. Thanks to the Foundation’s work, thousands of people have gained legal support and the opportunity to fight for justice.

It defends the rights of demonstrators, activists facing lawsuits for providing assistance, and those who speak out about abuses of power. The Foundation also defends freedom of speech, especially when there are attempts to violate it at the Polish-Belarusian border.

It works to ensure laws are created that respect human dignity and protect the foundations of democracy - rule of law, freedom, and equality.

It fights for the right to a fair trial by representing clients before national courts and international tribunals, in particular before the European Court of Human Rights.

It co-creates European standards for the protection of human rights.
