Do you know someone who supports human rights activists in an exceptional way? Nominate them to the Henryk Wujec Civic Award

The Henryk Wujec Civic Award is an award given by non-governmental organizations on International Human Rights Day to individuals who provided exceptional support of activists and organizations working for human rights. The winner of the first edition of the Henryk Wujca Civic Award was Dr. Hanna Machinska in December 2022. The call for applications for the next edition will last until October 10, 2023. - Since the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border began, many people on the road have lost their health or lives. This drama is ongoing. It's a difficult situation on many levels and for many of the actors in these events - not only for the migrants, though clearly for them in particular - also for the border residents. Recently, it has been talked about more again thanks to the film by Agnieszka Holland. - says Dr. Hanna Machinska, winner of the Henryk Wujec Citizenship Award. - In addition to people with refugee or migration experiences, the rights of other social groups are also threatened or violated in Poland: women, LGBT+ people, people with disabilities, the rule of law is broken - as the organizations that award the Henryk Wujec Civic Prize say. However, there are people who help - who believe that it is their duty to uphold fundamental rights, which should be ensured and protected, regardless of by whom power is exercised," stresses Dr. Hanna Machinskaya.

The award is jointly given by human rights and civil society organizations in Poland. The chapter of the Henryk Wujec Civic Award is made up of: the Henryk Wujec Civic Fund, the organizer of the Award, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, the organizer of the WATCH DOCS Festival, the National Federation of Polish NGOs, the "Our Ombudsman" Initiative, and Amnesty International Poland.

The Henryk Wujec Civic Award is given annually on International Human Rights Day. The winner of the second edition of the Award will be announced on December 9, 2023, during the Closing Gala of the 23rd WATCH DOCS.
