Patricio Guzmán to receive the Marek Nowicki Award
It is with great pleasure that we announce this year's laureate of the Marek Nowicki award for outstanding achievements in showing human rights in film. The award has been presented by the Board of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights during the WATCH DOCS Human Rights in Film festival for almost twenty years now.
The award will go to the icon of the documentary film genre: the Chilean master Patricio Guzmán, creator of tasteful, poetic images about memory, democracy, hope and history.
During WATCH DOCS, you will be able to rewatch the most important films from Guzmán's rich body of work, including:
- "Pearl Button" - Awarded a Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival (2015)
- "Nostalgia for the Light" - Awarded the European Film Award in the category: the best European documentary (2010)
During the 22nd WATCH DOCS Human Rights in Film, his latest work, "My Imaginary Country", will have its Polish premiere. It received a standing ovation during the screening at this year's Cannes festival. The film documents mass protests that led to the collapse of the government in Chile a year ago, forever changing the local society.
The 22nd WATCH DOCS IFF starts on December 2 and runs for ten days (December 2-11). Film screenings and meetings with authors will take place in the Muranów and Kinoteka cinemas in Warsaw - and online, on the mojeekino.pl platform.
