Post-film discussion with Monika Szafranska

After the films, we invite you to participate in a discussion that will help us better understand the role of media, journalism and personal narratives in reporting on armed conflicts. Together, we will consider what are the benefits and risks of using media (including social media) to document war? How do documentaries affect perceptions of armed conflict internationally? What are effective ways of combating disinformation and reporting the facts in the media?

Monika Szafrańska: 2019-2023 fact-checker at Demagog.org.pl, currently assistant at the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication, Jagiellonian University. Participant in the international research project ‘Mapping Media for Future Democracies’ (MeDeMap). Her research interests include the importance of the media for democracy and public participation, especially the role of fact-checking. She is writing her doctoral thesis on the role of factchecking portals in the media system.
